Kids Club’s Summer Camp is Now Enrolling

Laveen’s Kids Club is now enrolling children for Summer Day Camp.

This year’s camp will be located at Paseo Pointe School,  8800 S. 55th Ave. Camps begin on June 1 and end on July 29 for school-aged children and July 24 for preschoolers. Both camps will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Meals will be provided. Breakfast will be served at 8:00 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11:00 a.m. And, afternoon snacks will be served beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Program details

Children will be broken up into groups of 10 kids, with 1 staff member and participate in fun and exciting recreational activities including arts/crafts, sports, group games in their assigned group areas throughout the day. 

Children should bring a water bottle (labeled with their name), wear closed-toe shoes and sunscreen applied prior to drop off.

Important Information regarding program staff and participant safety:

  • If a child is sick, he or she will need to stay home.
  • Temperature/Health screenings will take place for staff and all children before entering the building each day.
  • If a child becomes ill during the program, they will be isolated from the other children and sent home. Please keep in mind if a child is sent home due to illness and the child has another sibling(s) the siblings may also be asked to stay home.
  • Staff will wear masks. Masks will not be required for children.
  • No personal belongings from home including backpacks. Preschoolers will need to bring a crib size sheet and blanket in a plastic bag for nap time.
  • Hand washing stations will be provided and will require all children to wash their hands regularly.
  • Parents will drop off and pick up students at the check in station (lobby), and will not enter the buildings. Only one parent will be allowed inside for check in/out at a time
  • Custodial staff will provide a nightly deep clean of our facilities, and Kids Club staff will clean periodically throughout the day using a bleach water solution.

Laveen Child Nutrition Transitions to Summer Meal Program

Beginning on June 1, Laveen’s Child Nutrition Department will transition to the free summer meal program.

Meals for multiple days will be served on Mondays and Thursdays only. These will continue to be served Grab & Go style.

Meals will be served on Mondays and Thursdays only. Each distribution will include breakfast and lunch for multiple days. Meals will be served cold with take and bake instructions.

Meals will be served at four school sites from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

  • M.C. Cash School
  • Paseo Pointe School
  • Rogers Ranch School
  • Trailside Point Performing Arts Academy

We will also distribute meals at five bus stops between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

  • 39th Ave & Maldonado
  • 37th Lane & Lynne
  • 53rd Ave. & Glass
  • Seely Street & Riverwalk.

Meals are available to all children under the age of 18. Children must be present to receive a meal.

Laveen Schools Are Now Enrolling for 2020-21.

All Laveen schools are currently enrolling students for the 2020-21 school year. Check out our new online registration portal at www.laveenschools.org/registration.

Using our online system, families will be able to complete necessary forms and submit for enrollment.Within the portal you will be asked to select your top three school choices in order of preference. Parents/guardians will need to present the required documents below in person for verification prior to the start of school.

  • Child’s original birth certificate
  • Child’s immunization record
  • Proof of Residence, such as utility receipt or lease agreement (refer to Arizona Residency Guidelines)
  • Legal papers, if applicable for custody
  • Withdrawal form and report card from previous school
  • Photo identification for parent/guardian.

 

*Please note, Vista del Sur is an accelerated school and students must take an assessment prior to enrolling. Paseo Pointe is a dual language immersion (DLI) school. Students entering kindergarten – third grade must enroll in the DLI program (DLI will expand a grade level each year).

Laveen’s Kids Club Approved as an Arizona Enrichment Center

To ensure Arizona’s first responders, critical healthcare workers, and essential public sector employees have the support they need to continue combatting COVID-19, the Governor’s office has partnered with a variety of agencies to offer child care through Arizona Enrichment Centers.

The Kids Club program at Desert Meadows School has been approved as one of the few Arizona Enrichment Centers in the Laveen area to provide this service to essential workers who rely on childcare for their young children to be able to continue to work.

When school closures were first announced, Laveen’s Kids Club team immediately stepped up to provide a day camp experience to children whose parents are considered “essential workers.” This program provides structured activities in a safe, supervised environment for children in Grades Preschool – 6. Until the executive order is lifted, Laveen Kids Club will not provide childcare services to parents who are not considered essential workers as defined by the Governor’s executive order and have been encouraged to keep their children home.

We are proud that Laveen’s program can support the Governor’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected initiative and serve the families who are working the front lines during this state of emergency.

Paseo Pointe Screening Assessment Cancelled Until Further Notice

Hello Paseo Pointe Families,

Unfortunately due to the recent school closure, we will need to cancel our upcoming screening assessments scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2020.

We are unable at this time to officially reschedule our screening assessments. I understand not everyone receiving this email was required to screen as some of you are our PreK families. Regardless, I felt it necessary to include everyone joining our school community.
The rationale for our screening is to provide our parent’s information on their child’s academic readiness. Paseo Pointe is the dual language immersion school, we provide instruction in both Spanish and English. Therefore, students must come with some academic skills in order to be successful in a setting where they are also acquiring a new language. So we screen our incoming students in the following areas:
– Letter identification (in order (ABCD) and out of order (DKJA))
– Counting
– Sorting
– Reading readiness skills (if handed a book upside down and backward, how does the student handle the book, where do you start reading, how to turn the pages of a book)
– Shapes
– Colors
– Can the student write their name?
– Trace an object or two (observing pencil grip)
– Retell a short story (what happened in the story, who are the characters, setting?)
These are all concepts we screen for during the assessment. We are currently working to create a list of resources to support you at home.

Academics During School Closures

During this school closure, Laveen’s teachers and instructional coaches have been working to develop lessons and resources that you can work on at home with your children. In addition to all curriculum materials being available online, we have developed an Online Resources website, where you can find various resources to help your child keep up with academics. This can be found under the “Students” tab of our district website.

Please remember that your child will need to log in to our curriculum platforms in order to access the material. If you do not have your child’s login information, please contact your child’s teacher. One single sign-on through Google gives students access to all of our digital curriculum programs  Watch this video for details on logging in or refer to this Quick Reference Sheet.

Please be aware that all Laveen schools have strict internet filtering when a student connects from our server. Once you use your personal device, this filter is not available. Please monitor your child’s internet usage as they will be able to explore whatever sites your home computer allows. If you do not have wi-fi or are unable to access the internet at home, Cox Communications is offering one free month of internet access to qualifying low-income families through their Connect2Compete program. T-Mobile is also offering an EmpowerED data plan.

Free Meals For Children During Closures

Knowing many of our families rely on school meals for their children, we will be offering free breakfast and lunch to all children between the ages of one and 18 on a grab & go basis. Families may stop by any of our schools (except Vista) or one of our ten district bus stops. Use our Nutrislice page to find the stop closest to you. Look for our school buses at the locations below.

Children must be present to take a meal. Adult meals are not available. Families do not need to register for meals and there are no income requirements.

UPDATE: Beginning April 13, there will be changes to our free meal program. For added convenience to our families, and for the health and safety of our employees, we will be providing both breakfast and lunch together during one meal service. Locations remain the same.

UPDATE: The meal service schedule will be changing starting May 20 as we transition to the summer meal program.
